I thought I was meaner about Casserly, though both underwhelm me.
As you can see I still rank Floyd Reese pretty highly, putting him just behind Heckert of those guys who could be gotten now. I respect him because he still has a youthful outlook and enthusiasms for the game, even when he disagrees with me. The other guys, when I hear them talk or read their stuff--they seem to be going through the motions, and just doing what they are expected to do (and that goes for Cowher, Peterson, Schottenheimer, Wolf and maybe Shanahan).
I would love to see Dick Vermeil as a consultant, I love that guy. You cannot fake that passion. I also like Ted Sundquist because the rat, sorry, Mike Shanahan used him as a scapegoat for 2 years of losing (after Shanahan basically hi-jacked the personnel department). He got a raw deal and he was a good soldier through the whole thing. I respect that, too.
I think when you are looking at the top of the Lions, there is a lot of youth with Mayhew and Schwartz (and Lewand, though he's just the bean-counter). I know they are looking for one guy to head up the personnel department (and are calling it Assistant GM) and that's okay for one of these younger guys. But if they can get a couple of these older guys, having vast experience with successful organizations, and can pick their brains I think it would help balance out the inexperience factor.
