Don't get me wrong, I like Curry myself. I think he'll be a good player. And he'll do well for whoever drafts him. But you can get similar production later in the draft. Patrick Willis, DeMeco Ryans and Jon Beason are some of the best young LBs to come out in the past few years, and they all were lower in the draft. Good LBs can be found in just about every draft. There's no need to overreach for this guy.
I also agree with you Phantom about taking the best available. But all three guys that the Lions are considering are top-notch, so I don't see the pick being blown. But my reasoning against Curry is that you can find other LBs later in the draft that can produce similar results and you can shore up a major weakness on the o-line. I don't see many OTs in this draft after the Smiths and Taylor are gone.
The LT is the best way to go at #1 IMO. You start in the trenches, and since there's no DL available worthy of that pick, than I'd go with Jason Smith.
BTW, I know Stafford takes a lotta heat, but the guy can't be faulted for Georgia's troubles. Their defense was horrible and they do play in the SEC and they had injuries. He came in as a true freshman and won the job. His upside is just as good as Curry and both Smiths. I just don't think that coming into a crappy situation like the Lions is the best thing. But I agree with you Lisa in that he should be supported like the other QBs. One positive if he is drafted is that the team will actually want him here, unlike Harrington.
And don't start cracking on the new Bubbles!!! He's been working out!!!
I'd have preferred a little something more dramatic (I LOVED what the Broncos did when they revamped their unis and logo), but hey, it is the Lions we're talking about.
