I was hoping Mayhew would stop the Loins disgusting habit of passing on great linemen and LBs when selecting early and build this team from the inside out. With this pick, the best linemen will go elsewhere, once again increasing the gap between the good teams and Detroit. Schwartz agreeing with this pick means I hold less hope for his leadership, too. Mayhew and Co. just blew away all hope I had gained from the offseason moves that seemed intelligent.
They can now go and select DBs, WRs, and RBs the rest of the draft for all I care. For fifty plus years I have eagerly followed this team, getting more and more frustrated after each decade of poor drafting has left the team at more and more a disadvantage on both lines and at linebacker. By the time #20 comes around, 4-5 top offensive left tackles, as many as three top LBs, and at least two top defensive tackles will be added to teams already stronger in the trenches than the Loins.
At this moment, I feel the strongest urge I have ever felt to turn my attention elsewhere on game days. They obviously still have a management team that doesn't get it. Millen was just the latest in a long line of poor GMs when he was fired. Mayhew appears just as football ignorant to these old eyes.
Staffords biggest weaknesses? Decision-making and accuracy! He should fit right in with this franchise easily. I no longer wish to fit in as an angry and frustrated fan. Bleagh!
