I don't mind the Stafford pick. Most of you know I would've preferred getting Jason Smith, but I don't think they can blow the pick regardless of who they selected. I believe Smith and Curry should be good players for their teams. However, Stafford has the potential to be a solid QB if they build a quality line. I don't think he starts this year either. Hopefully Schwartz will use MS similar to how Steve McNair, Carson Palmer, and Philip Rivers were brought along. Let 'em sit and learn until they're better prepared and there's more talent on the field.
I was surprised with the players taken in this draft to say the least. Linehan's scheme doesn't require a TE much (like Norv Turner's scheme), so why draft one with the 20th pick when you have Mack, Laurinitis, Clay Matthews and Rey M. available? Nothing against Pettigrew cuz I think he's solid, but he's not gonna be a major factor on this team unless they plan on running a power-I or throwing to the TE 5-6 times per game. I don't like that pick very much.
But the WORST pick IMO was passing on JL and Rey M. in the 2nd round. For a safety from WMU??? UNBELIEVABLE. The rest of these guys I haven't seen play, only read some scouting reports on. If these scouting reports are spot on, then we might be in good shape. If not, well, it's more of the same ol' Lions.
It seems like Mayhew and Schwartz are on the same page with the picks, or at least that's what their saying. Everyone should have a role coming in, and that's big. It wasn't like that with Millen. He always seemed to bring in guys that the coaches didn't want. About half these picks were questionable IMO, but at this point, I'm willing to give this regime the benefit of the doubt now until I see them consistently screwing up.
