I was roaming around the internet and I ran across some of the nicknames of NFL players. And frankly, our nicknames in this generation are severely lacking in any creativity or fun.
What happened to the "Night Train" Lane type names?
We need to give the guys some fun and inspirational type nicknames. Not like "False-start" Foster, or Joey "Blue Skies", BTW. I'm talking about positivity here.
A few Lion players have nicknames, though I wasn't aware of it before I looked some of these guys up on the internet. Julian Peterson earned "X" and "The Freak" at MSU. There are a lot of "freaks" around and I lean towards "X". I hope he'll be the "X"-factor for this linebacker crew. Jason Hanson earned "Thunderfoot" at Washington State. Calvin Johnson is so good he has two nicknames. "Megatron" used to be Spiderman at Georgia Tech. Some people love the megatron thing, but I'm so-so on it.
Kevin Smith was "24K" at UCF, but his number is now 34, and it doesn't really fit with the Lions, so he needs a new moniker. "Hidalgo" was the horse that nobody thought could win the long distance race in Arabia. (One of my favorite movies.) K. Smith is going to have to carry the rushing load, and is under-appreciated. Kevin "Hidalgo" Smith could be a stud
and he's already carried for long distances.
So, how about Ernie "Animal" Sims? (My favorite muppet character was animal.) Larry "Athlete's" Foote
LOL?
You got any good ones for our guys?
