I remember Hank Ballard. I was young in the fifties, but I was listening to the radio. Have my aunt to thank for that, she was always listening and telling me about all the hits. She's 85 now, bless her heart.
Anyways, the guy is in the Hall of Fame, for cryin' out loud. You can still get some of his stuff on amazon. And R&B was my second favorite music when I was a small one, next to classical (I was a little different).
But I especially remember "annie had a baby" , because a Group in the sixties called Teegarden & Vanwinkle (that was their real last names) used to play in Michigan quite a bit, and they covered it, had a small (local) hit with it.
You are right about me, though, Sprawl. I used to go to the Roll-Air rink in Bay City, and see Terrible Ted when he was playing for fifty bucks a night. Also, Bob Seeger, the Frost, from which sprang Alice Cooper's lead guitar player, the MC5, and many others. Saw 'em all when they were small.
Here's a quote for ya.....
If you're looking for youth, you're looking for longevity, just take a dose of rock 'n' roll—it keeps you going. Just like the caffeine in your coffee, rock 'n' roll is good for the soul, for the well being, for the psyche, for your everything. I love it. I can't even picture being without rock 'n'roll. — Hank Ballard
