When I was in my late teens, a friend persuaded me to take a ride with him on his bike. We were up at Houghtin Lake, where my family had a cottage for many years.
He deceided to head into the woods despite my worried objections. About a quarter mile in we hit an exposed tree root, a big one. I was thrown clear, and just was stunned for a minute or so. My buddy was not so lucky.
He got caught in the bike somehow, and the throttle got jammed, and the bike just chewed him up, man. It was only for a few seconds, I guess, but it was enough. He died in my arms, man.
Since that, I just never had any stomache for bikes. Got friends that love 'em, though.
How's that for a real bringdown? Let's lighten up for a minute.
So it's a nogo on bikes, but you said that you will be 70 in Nov. What date? I'll be 62 Nov. 13th. Are you a Scorpio? Maybe that's why we seem to be sympatico. Just kidding, I don't believe in any of that hooey.
This thread got me thinking yesterday about the music back then. Used to be a WC group that hung around here, called the Popcorn Blizzard, later became the Floating Circus. This was meatloaf's group, and they spent a lot of time here in Saginaw, before they became regulars at the Grand Ballroom in Det.
Even back then, when Meatloaf hit that stage, he absolutely OWNED it. And then there was Iggy Pop and the Stooges, Mike Quatro, who a bit later managed Grand Funk Railroad, and his sister Susie (Little Sister was worth lookin' at, in her case), man I could go on and on, just remembering groups and their members.
That was a special time, back then. I was never into the hippy scene, well, except to meet girls, even as a youth I was pretty conservative politically, but the music, Man, the Music, there never was anything like it.
