You've been pushing for the 3-4 for a while and Gunther could definitely install it. It has it's weaknesses up the middle, but you can play more aggressively since you've got a more athletic player on the field at LB. It's a solid defense with the right players, and we do have better LBs than DLs like you said. But I don't think the timing's right to go with that now. They should've went for the 3-4 in training camp when they had the time to properly learn the system. To switch to a 3-4 now wouldn't really help much and might actually make things worse. They'd have to learn the new scheme on the fly, which isn't good.
It'd be best to wait until the end of this season to make the switch. But right now I'd just settle for a defense that could at least minimize some of the big plays. A conservative Tampa 2 look with some inventive blitz packages may be the best thing for the team right now. Force the other team to work down the field and play perfect ball. The LBs reading and reacting with the MLB dropping back a bit to cut the field in thirds may be enough to cut down on the scoring. Right now the kitties are getting thrashed.
