then I guess I don't blame you for thinking that. However, I've seen them play much better including last week vs. Pittsburgh. The offense works when Calvin Johnson is in. It is eye-opening how much his absence makes a difference. The running game has had some ups and downs. When they are blocking for the run well, and Calvin is in the game the only thing stopping them is themselves.
I get impatient with Stafford sometimes for making poor decisions. However he's 21 years old and I expect that for at least the first 1/2 of the year. No excuses for Culpepper, however. He had the worst game I've seen since last year. He looked NOTHING like he did in the preseason. I was calling for Stanton to come in about 2 series before Culpepper pulled up lame.
And Stanton actually looks like he could be decent if he's not put behind the eight-hole from the beginning. He's got potential to be pretty good, but they need to run some roll-outs and bootlegs to get him going. More the pocket around. He's like Donovan McNabb used to be, in that he doesn't get into his game until he's scrambling around making things happen. Drew Brees is a little like that, too.
Anyway, I think they will win somewhere between 4 and 6 games. St. Louis, Tampa Bay, Kansas City, Oakland, Buffalo, Tennessee, Cleveland and Washington should be drafting before the Lions. Carolina, Houston, Seattle, Dallas and Green Bay have had some similar games to the Lions in the Lion/Packer game. And I think these teams will win more than one game.
If I were you, Dennis, I would be blasting your o-line because Detroit has one of the weakest d-lines in the NFL on top of which they were playing their 3rd string DEs, and if those freaking DBs could cover for 3 seconds, Aaron Rodgers might have been sacked 15 times, instead of 5. I was expecting a far cleaner game penalty-wise from the Pack, too. I don't think the Pack looks any stronger than they did last year, either. But I would hate to judge their season from watching one game.
