I actually think the Lions should have won this game more handily than they did because they seemed to dominate much of the game. What a difference from years past. Ahhhhhhhhhh... it feels very good indeed.
Petermen and Cherilus took stupid penalties that can be corrected with an increase in personal discipline that can come with winning, some passes were dropped, and the running game could still stand improvement. However, the overall strength of this team's front seven on defense is exciting, and that really helped the back four's effectiveness. The OL seemed to protect Stafford very well and the run blocking was better than in the past. The team has depth. The biggest single significant improvement appears to be the linebacking corps to these old eyes. Wow!
I am guardedly optimistic about this team's possibilities for this season. What a great GM Mayhew seems to be, and the Schwartz led coaching staff is certainly more aggressive and unpredictable than I am used to seeing. The Lions won on the road! That in itself is a promising sign. GO LOINS! (er... LIONS)
