In the last game of the season at Chicago long ago, the Lions were about to beat the Bears and win another title when one of the Bear linemen charged into the backfield and broke Bobby Layne's leg long after the pass had been delivered. The Lions lost their lead, the game, and the title. No penalty was dished out in the game or by the league afterward.
A Raider DB hit Darryl Stingley so hard he paralyzed him from the neck down. He celebrated the hit over his body and no action was taken by the league or the game officials.
What Suh did looked bad. but stomping a guy with a quick kick is not as dangerous as it is portrayed. Head-to-head hits and knee shots can end careers. Suh is emotional, and I like his talent and emotion a lot. Today's NFL will suspend him, fine him, and threaten more. He will change to fit in sometime very soon once he sits out.
Football has always been hard hitting and dangerous, and full of "dirty" players! Butkus and Lawrence Taylor would be constantly fined and suspended in today's game because it has changed so much. They can try to legislate violence out, but it will not work to the extent the NFL leadership seems to want. If it does, we will see an end to the game we love so much.
I wonder what that OL did to get Suh so very mad in the first place. Anybody checking on that? Even if no one cares for Suh's response, there is often a cause for every reaction that also needs to be dealt with in fairness to the game and its players. My rant is ended!
