DE Cliff Avril returned to the practice field for the first time since signing his franchise tag tender. Player safety regulations installed under the new CBA prohibited Avril from joining the contact portions of the fully-padded practice, but the team removed their shoulder pads during the final drill period so he could participate.
“Today was a good start – I'm lucky I didn't have to go through the whole practice,” Avril joked. “It's all about getting a feel for my reads again, and I feel like I'll get it back fast.” Avril will work out on Detroit's scheduled day off Tuesday. That workout will count as his second of camp, clearing him to participate in padded drills Wednesday.
