Michigan & Wisconsin Territory

I have been told that Brown County in Wisconsin was Michigan territory in the l800's. My ancestors came from that area, but I dont know what Michigan County or area it would be referred as. Could you please help me on this? My ancestors were LaPlante's, Baudoin's and Gavreau's
