Callisto and Kodi are both now International CHampions:
Am/Int’l CH Pegasus Osa Bodacious Callisto,
and Am/Int’l CH Pegasus Oso Bodacious Kodiak
We went to the IABCA International Show in Lexington, KY this past weekend and BOTH dogs earned their International titles.
PLUS – Callisto took BOB Adult ALL 4 SHOWS!!!!!!! AND got 4 Group placements! - two Group 3’s and two Group 2’s – all owner handled!!!! There were some VERY nice dogs in Working Group, so it certainly wasn’t a “walk-away” for her.
We had a great time and I recommend that if you ever have the chance to do an International show – do it! They are much more relaxed than AKC shows, the judging is 99.9% about the DOG, and most dogs are owner handled. In fact, the few pro handlers I did see this past weekend were handling their OWN dogs, not client dogs!
When you finish showing, the judge gives you a written critique as well as takes time to talk to each handler/owner individually. That was fantastic!!!!!! Even the judges seemed more relaxed and had more fun! One of the Mastiff judges was also a Mastiff breeder, so that was really nice!!!!!!
It’s a whole different venue than AKC and it takes a bit of getting use to. There is no WD or WB; and in every class it doesn’t matter if there’s one dog or four – each dog has the chance of getting a V1 rating for a leg of the Int’l title (it takes 3, V1 ratings - with at least one from an international judge to get the Int’l CH title) and V1’s are not given automatically. There were plenty of V2’s given out this weekend – just not to Mastiffs!
The V1A (first place for that class) dog is the one that goes back in for BOB. There is no BOS either. They have BOB and groups for BOB Bred-By Puppy, BOB Bred-By Adult, BOB Veteran, BOB Puppy, and BOB Adult. The Group 1 dog goes back for BIS – so there are at least 5 BIS winners. AND they give a reserve BIS award. BIS is judged by a panel of at least 2 judges, not just by one judge.
I also want to thank the Lexingtonians for ordering the weather for the weekend!!! It was in the very low 70’s with 0% humidity and on Saturday there was a cloud cover for most of the day which kept us from being directly out in the sun all day. Sunday was a bit warmer with less cloud cover but still quite pleasant with a light breeze.
Mastiffs had the biggest entry of all the breeds with 14 for show 1, and 12 for shows 2, 3, and 4. And Working Group had the most entries of all the groups.
There are 2 shows per day so it can be a long day, but it is SO worth it. The Mastiffs were all owner handled and ALL the Mastiff owners were so friendly. We ALL had a GREAT time (I think I’ve said that already
)!!!!!!!!
It couldn’t have been a better weekend – good friends, good dogs, good weather, good EVERYTHING. I have some pictures that Marti Linfert took of my two dogs , printed out and gave to me. I hope to be able to scan some of them tonight and post a few pictures too. That was my only complaint – there was no show photographer on Saturday at all and the one on Sunday was set up across the street and you had to go to him. By the time I remembered he was there – I was already headed home! So I’ll have to settle for the pics that Marti took and take my own pictures of the certificates and medallions that the dogs got.
