We will have to wait to see how the new discriminating PIs will do on iron masking. Right now we have no examples at all as current examples such as the GS5 and infinium exhibit iron ID and not discrimination.
However if we are going to be looking for coins below 10" we had better have accurate TID. Digging everything non ferrous at extreme depth will indeed produce a lot of problems for the hobby.
Accurate TID with depth is not possible with current VLFs as they are affected by ground mineralization. There is a lot of deep coins well below 10" that fall into this "iffy" class.
Discriminating PIs are not affected to the same degree as VLFs are to ground mineralization. The burning question is how much more accurate TID will be on Dave's Pulse Devil than a conventional VLF? Will TID on a dime at 5" be the same as at 12"(as an example- I have no depth figures for the PD)?
I did ask Dave about this for the PD. His response was that the TID was correct to total depth.
In a way I feel Dave has underestimated the coin/relic market here in the US by concentrating on the gold nugget market. If he has a discriminating PI with accurate TID to depth sales amoung coin hunters in the US will surpass everything else.
