Your points are well taken for sites in which one can do indiscrimate digging. I remember one of Dave's testers recovered a silver coin at 20.5 inches in the UK on property in which he could use a shovel. However, we know where a lot of folks will be taking these new machines- back to the parks. Digging a large number of deep holes as Carl has pointed out in such areas would be harmfull to the hobby.
Of course we are still thinking with our VLF mindset. Digging all "iffy" and non ferrous hits at deep depths is the norm for serious users considering the reliability of VLF TID. Perhaps a more accurate TID for discriminating PIs would enable us to be more selective in sensitive areas.
