Hi Reg
It is good to hear from you again. Yes I do feel that you can distinuish copper and silver from iron at all depths for the GS5 with the basic ferrous/non ferrous setting. However, one can not distinuish with this setting larger lower conductors such as minnie balls or large AL from high conductor coins. For your mods you are getting greater depth on high conductor coins than I was on an unmodified GS5. I never thought the GS5 would be a deep coin hunter as my depths for high conductor coins were not impressive with my original GS5. I will have to rethink that with your mods. To distinuish larger lower conductors and even different coin types requires an elliptical coil(toe versus middle of the coil responses)with different GB and pulse delay settings. The issue is one of what is practical versus what can be done.
Actually a big problem in ID was in separating for iron and low conductors by increasing the GB for ID. Increasing the GB reduces the sensitivity quite a bit on the original GS5. This of course was on the original model and not the various upgrades.
Happy Hunting
George
