Most small business owners do not promote their product as the absolute best on a platform as large as the internet, and then attempt to restrict comparisons between it and similar products or censure any comment they consider to be the least bit negative. They don't put in place a discussion forum dedicated to their product and then delete legitimate questions concerning that product, and also don't attempt to discredit and/or launch personal attacks on those who buy their product and make less than complimentary comments concerning it's performance in comparison to other similar products. You recently deleted a post because it contained what you considered personal attacks against certain people. I read it before you deleted it, and having talked to some of those involved with that detector at that time I think it was actually pretty darn accurate concerning the people it addressed. The post mentioned incentives being given for helping promote a detector, including promoting it with false information.
I have been offered incentives by more than one detector manufacturer, and while bragging up the product wasn't directly stated, it was clearly understood by myself and the person offering the incentive that was what it was for. The exact statement from one was, "I appreciate your comments about my XXXX on the forums and I'm sending you one of my new coils. If you like it, it's yours to keep." I've never accepted freebees for promoting anything, but I've spoken on the phone, in person, or via email with a few others who were offered or accepted incentives to "say a few good words" about a product. I'm not naive, I realize that's a common practice but that doesn't make it right. I guess I'm just an old, outdated geriatric, because I see that as being dishonest. I firmly believe that anyone who claims their product to be the best should let it stand on it's merits, and instead of trying to restrict the inevitable comparisons between it and other like products, and deleting or refusing to answer questions about that product, they should welcome the opportunity to prove their claims.
