Thanks Steve,
I used my TDI last week and got foil down to about 1/2 the size of a penny and one layer thick, guess I'll now find the matchhead sized bits.
VA Beach has thousands of folks a day and is remarkebly free of non-ferrous "macro" targets larger than a dime. I'm told by the locals that it's heavily "sanded-in". Alcohol is prohibited which keeps the beer caps to a relatively low level and that leaves pulltabs and foil.
There are a lot of dedicated hunters out every week, but they mostly work the "lane" between the max high and low tides and use Excaliburs. My hope is that there is a few years worth of microjewelry that these guys never see.
Like most of my bright ideas, this probably won't work, but it's fun trying and the GM4b was only $175.
The good part is that I don't have to worry about tide tables. I get off work early and the Hilton outdoor bar at the beach has a great happy hour which starts at 1500. My wife and I can have a couple of $3 Stella's - some $3 calamari and then I can detect for a couple of hours while she reads a book or goes for a walk. We head home about 1900 by which time the horrible traffic lined up for the tunnel is decreased.
Isn't metal detecting a great hobby!!!!
