As I've mentioned many times on this forum, I'm very fond of small coils and tend to use them almost exclusively. When I saw the small coil on the Gold Bug I couldn't help but think of the irony. Most of the western states, including Alaska make up much of "gold country". That sure is a lot of area to try and cover with that tiny coil! At least when I hunt, the area I cover is very limited to a particular spot that I want to hunt. That might be a corner of a specific yard or the base of a stone wall. Generally, it's an area no bigger than a couple hundred square feet. When I see photos of the wide open desert or miles of creek bed, the thought of finding a tiny nugget with a tiny coil seems almost impossible. Yet, we know it isn't.
My question to seasoned gold hunters is, with so much ground to cover how do you zero in a specific area to hunt with a machine like the new GB or older GB2? I know that saying to go where gold has been found is still valid, but lets say you want to look elsewhere. Is it better to use a Minelab with big coil to hunt new ground, then use a machine like the GB to scour the area once a nugget is found? I'm curious how you'd go about it.
Thanks and HH,
Carl
