I think it has to be answered with,what is the soil like?
Some places in my soil a 5900 is the best with the 4 filter and a 2 filter won't detect a die on top of the ground but other places I detected a dime at almost 10" with a classic IDX.
So one is not better than the other just have to use the right detector for the right place.
That is why I like to see Whites make a copy of the Compass X-200,Even a MXT with a select option of 2 or 4 filtter and 2 different freq. to chose from.
