They are both great detectors with the 5900/6000 being more versatile. The 5900/6000 is better in bad ground and has more options for different hunting conditions. With the excellent analog meter it is the best there is for selective digging. The modified Classic's like the IDX Pro using the 6 inch coil are one of the best in iron infested sites. Using the expanded discrimination range aka the black sand switch will add depth in bad ground and turns this low freq. detector into a hot hot jewelry hunter. I'll be bold here and say that when set up right my modified IDX Pro will hit small size gold rings deeper than many of the higher frequency detectors in my ground. Even with all the great new detectors out there, given the choice of owning only one detector for all my hunting the Whites 5900/6000 would still be my pick.
