The White's Spectra V3 is a detector I don't see discussed much on this forum. Is it the big price, complexity, or weight keeping people from buying it? Since everyone knows I can't see meters and displays like I used too, I've been researching it lately because I discovered it has a ZOOM feature to increase the size of the display text!!
Seriously, what I find interesting is the use of three simultaneous frequencies to analyze metal content... Silver, brass/copper, and gold to give the operator better odds at his "guess" to dig or not. I hunted a location last weekend where I could have used that technology. The hunt site had a real load of modern coins and trash near the surface and older deeper coins below. The site was near water so gold jewelry would normally be a great possibility here as well. The problem was the area had trees and bushes all around and the root structures were like spider webs in and under the grass roots. Some roots might as well been like working around and between steel re-bar! This type of hunt scenario would be greatly enhanced when you could run a deep seeking analyzing visual and audio ID detector. It would add efficiency to your hunt time by reducing the amount of time spent digging surface trash and modern coins (that is if you are primarily interested in the older and deeper coinage like I am!). At the end of the day I had a much hurting arm from the numerous difficult recoveries, a pouch full of modern coins & trash, and no deep silver or gold jewelry to show for it. My hunting buddy used a visual ID with depth reading machine and proved 5 times that silver was under it all. But our arms were both killing us at the end of the day. I don't think we found half of what was potentially there.
The V3 with its wireless headphone system and claimed ability to analyze metal content is coming closer to the "Super Detector" I detailed in my book 16 years ago. Anybody out there own one yet? If so, does the detector live up to your expectations? How's your swinging arm at the end of the day?
