Ha! I don't think my wife would go for that!! Unless we are still talking the detector type. That she encourages.
I'm a special case in that I make a second income as a successful prospector. Much of my detecting is a business activity which I write off against the income. Admittedly much of that comes due to the fact that I have access to world-class nugget ground but I do well on jewelry also. So for me having a half dozen of the best detectors available is just a business investment that puts money in my pocket.
Kind of a classic case of doing what you love and having it pay off. I'm a pretty fortunate guy. My wife actually pushes me out the door to go metal detecting!
