Great thread guy's.
Knew there was a reason my marriage didn't work out maybe it was the 50 detectors. LOL
As someone who hunts primarily jewelry I'm always looking for the edge. Baron SST, Cobra 11 , Troy X5
As Steve has pointed out pulltabs come in all over the map and even the K makes a difference. I can set the Cobra on an air test using notch with 18K rings and pass bottle caps and pulltabs down side I still get the pennies and depending on the shape and angle in the ground some pulltabs.
Thought I managed the same act on the Baron but in the ground it just does not respond the same way as an air test, still working on that one.
My MXT is all over the map on gold rings, what I have found is that if the VDI is bouncing on 2 or 3 numbers up or down it's not sure and worth digging. Some come in at 45 - 57 range. If the number locks on it usually is a pulltab.
The main machine I use for parks is the Troy X5 no guessing just digging. What I do in this case is think more about the odds before digging. If I'm in the middle of a field with very few targets every one is going to be dug. In the water park area there is more chance that parents will pick pulltabs and beer caps up because they don't want there kids stepping on them. Same goes for open sport fields more chance folks pick up.
I have had very little time for hunting this year but have still picked off 9 gold rings most are high K .
Going back to Colchester in March Steve need some real old stuff.
