Steve, I've been using 4900/5900/6000 series and now XL Pro for my main coin hunting detectors since they first came out. I used the 4900 for years in Alaska for gold prospecting with good success in areas with real bad ground. I've also tried many other makes and models through the years but these Whites models are still my favorites even in today's market. To tell you the truth the last new model of detector I purchased when it came out was the Whites XL Pro. I really don't care for the direction that the different manufacturers have gone the last few years so I haven't tinkered much with the latest models. Today I use the XL Pro, modified IDX Pro, Minelab Sovereign Elite and Minelab Advantage. I like using them all for different hunting but for coin hunting in bad ground the 5900/6000 SL's and XL Pro are still the best detectors I've used. They are excellent detectors in good or bad ground and have a very accurate analog meter that no detector even today can match. You can go to Whites website and read or even download the manuals for these models. You can read field tests on these detectors at Lost Treasure Magazine Online and Also read user reviews from several sites. Monte is a great source of help as he has a lot of experience with these models as well. If you need help let me know.
