I have used the GTA 1000,for several years, and found that it does have an auto ground balance, within it.Its Phenomenal in finding Nickels and to this day I call it my Nickel machine. However, there is a draw-back to it,in dry ground it just doesn't seem to work all that well.I have to throw a coin down,to see if its working.So..I guess the rule of thumb with this machine, the ground has to be moist too some extent. Its still a great machine,I do like the bell tone,I also picked up another machine the Prism IV by Whites and its very similar to the gta 1000 but it works very well in dry ground.Consequently I use that one most of all.I have used Fishers, their great too.but I'm lazy,I don't dig for Pennies, especially the Zincs and it all depends on where I'm hunting.I'm sure you know the drill.
