Hi Folks,
I just received an e-mail from Greg and Janet Deering with some good news: They've upgraded the Deering Goodtime Banjo and haven't increased the price! The new design features a 3-ply Maple rim, scroll headstock with new engraving including new "Made With Pride In The U.S.A." Star, new walnut bowtie fingerboard inlays, and a 6-Year Warranty.
Frankly, to me, a prospective banjo buyer, the older Goodtime banjos looked kind of goofy but the new design Goodtime, especially the Goodtime 2 Resonator Banjo, looks mighty fine! With no price increase, that means I could get a new Deering Goodtime 2 Resonator with the new features for about $500. I've seen the old style Goodtime Banjos at Stutzman's and he still has a couple but I could have him order me a new style too. This way, I could get my banjo feet wet and then buy a Deering Sierra later on. I think this came up a couple of years ago, but what do you banjo players think of the most-recent, older-style Goodtime Banjos for tone and playability? With the improvements in the new-style Goodtime Banjos, do you think this would make a good-to-excellent banjo for me to pickup where I left off on the banjo about 45 years ago?
