PD - I hear great things about Wyatt Fawley's Vega replica's. He repaired my Vega's neck, new frets and finish and he did a wonderful job. I think you can get a longneck from him for under $3000. He uses original Vega pots. I really think its the tubaphone tonering that the difference. The manufacturing was very different back in the old days. When I took apart the new Deering I hit the tone ring with the end of a piano key and then I hit the original Vega tone ring and there is a big difference in the ring. I wonder how that new Goldtone longneck tubaphone with the bracket band sounds? You might give that a try. Its a little over $1000.
