Speaking of Deering, I thought I'd share a story. I bought a Vega long neck about a year ago. I loved it and played it constantly. I play in a folk group on Wednesdays, teach beginning banjo on Mondays and sometimes take it out on weekends. So, there was a lot of putting it in and out of the case, traveling and playing going on.
I had a few surprises with the Vega. The 5th string peg became loose and, with telephone guidance from Deering, I glued it back in. The head cracked and I replaced it.
Sadly, a crack appeared on the neck, close to the 5th string peg. I returned the banjo to Deering and they concluded that the problem was a result of applying a "slight tap" to the case when the banjo was inside. The case was, of course, the one Deering supplied with the banjo. Deering estimated the cost of reapirs at around $3,000 and initially asked me to pay half. I explained that I couldn't see how the cause of damage could be attributed to any misuse by me. The matter was referred to Janet Deering and within a few days I was told that Deering would absorb the full cost of the repair.
I expect the Vega to be returned in a few weeks. I just wanted to share the story to demonstrate what a fine and professional organization Deering Banjos is. Janet is a class act. I had always heard good things about Deering, but I have first hand experience now.
