I read the 12th Fret's bit on the Senator tone ring. Looks like a brass hoop(Wonder) with the addition of a skirt. I couldn't find a good enough picture of a vintage piece to tell if they were constructed in the same way.
What defines a Whyte Laydie to me visually(and I suspect it has a huge impact on the tone), is the scalloped ring inside the skirt. Take that out, and to me, it has nothing to do with a Whyte Laydie.
As they say, YMMV.
