Kate was really super. Her Mom came up to the Gazebo to put out her "Kate Lee & No Strings Attached" CD. She is only 16, writes her own songs, and will likely mature into one fine 'grasser! Good backup band too! So, her Mom and I started talking about Rochester, where she works, where I grew up. Ol' home week. (Don't tell Bill), but I gave her a "break" on the shirts (she bought 4!). Anyway, I didn't "see" Kate until she joined her Mom in the Gazebo because we were off to the left of stage, and could HEAR fine, but couldn't see the group. So, when she came up, I went over to her and said I thought she did one fine job, and I really liked her songs, and I (and Tony) knew a thing or two about music, so we weren't "shining her on." She was cute, and thanks given--and we fixed her up with a shirt.
So--before her Mom left, she said "would you like a CD? You like music, right?" I said "sure!" So, she brought one over to me, had Kate sign it, and when I said "what do I owe ya?" she simply shook her head, and said, "nothing." We Rochesterians look out for each other, eh? Great CD BTW. If she and the band play around locally, Ken, they are WELL-WORTH whatever they charge! (Now, just don't go sayin' nothin' 'bout that comped CD!
).
BTW, Remember Bat McGrath and Don Potter from Hylie Morris Alley on Dewey Ave.?? Well, ol' Bat joined up on AGF. He's "Blue Wyatt." We go back aways, to when I booked them both at Thiel College. We kinda got to know them, and when Carly Simon, Harry Chapin and Bat and Don (who opened for them) had a concert, I called up their manager, Ron Pawley, and we had just blown into town, and Sue and I wanted to see if he could get us some tix. "Tickets? We don't need no STINKIN' TICKETS!!--I'll meet you at the backstage door." So, in we went, and saw the concert from stage right, sitting in the wings. Got to meet Harry, and even noodle on his all-maple Guild F50 Jumbo! What a NICE MAN. Bat and Don went their separate ways; Don is now into Christian music and ministry-musta had a real epiphany of sorts. Bat still writes and records, so I PM-ed him, then emailed him from AGF. He remembered back when...wrote me a nice note back, and sent me his latest two CD's! Man, this has been THE week for connecting to the "performers."
