You are correct. HD28 has scalloped bracing but not forward shifted.
My choice is the HD28V (Vintage Series). Scallopped bracing and forward shifted. And from what I understand, the HD28V is more "hand crafted" than the standard series HD28.
I have both guitar. My HD28 has the Adirondak top and bracing, and I believe the bone nut and saddle. And for the record, it's for sale if anyone is interested. A shameless sales pitch.
