Well, I guess maybe my Dad's death is reminding me we only have so much time to enjoy our lives. (No...I'm NOT in line for some big inheritance! Dad didn't even have a pension). I have looked and looked, and I believe I will be purchasing a NEW HD-28 from my friend and luthier, Jim Holler. WHOO HOO!!
Right now, Martin has a "summer promo" that with any purchase of an all-gloss Martin, you receive $230.00 worth of free merch too: 13 sets of strings, picks, Martin nylon strap, winder, tuner, polish & cloth. Pretty sweet!
So, once I get back home next week, I'm headed to Jim's to purchase the HD he has in stock. I auditioned a straight D-28, and an HD-28V. Frankly, the "V" had a bit more "depth," but Jim tells me the HD will sound easily as good with some playing and time. Besides, I rather like the top and looks of the straight HD over that "V."
So, (Steve &) folks, I will officially join the ranks of Martin owners, and I'm pretty psyched. However, I STILL LOVE my Taylor 855, and would never part with her! Seeing as Jim Holler also chose a lower-end Taylor 12 as HIS only 12-ver, I'd say I'm in good company. But "certain parties" here will NEVER be able to diss my lack of owning "America's true guitar" ever again! ![]()
