Hi Larry,
Bless you for being brave! I too like the quality and playability of Taylor guitars. I can pull one off a dealer's wall and sit down and it feels comfortable to play.
Frankly, I don't know what all the anti-Taylor sentiment is about in the world. I used to be this way until I started playing some a couple of years ago and since then I've bought five with two currently in my collection: a 2009 410ce Spring Limited, and a 2008 355ce 12-string. I think Taylor's have a nice full but balanced resonance and their tone is a nice alternative to Martin's. I will make a public stand against Taylor's Expression System as due to its magnetically-based pickup array (especially the underfingerboard pickup) it imparts an electric-guitar-like tone to an amplified signal. It's better than nothing and it's very feedback resistant but I'm hoping Bob Taylor and Mr. Rupert Neve can develop it into a more natural-sounding system like a Fishman Aura.
I love Martins too and we must never forget Grandpappy Festus's crotchety admonishment directed at those unwise enough not to own a Martin: "If it ain't a Martin, it ain't a guitar!"
Grandpappy, by the way, still uses a 1940 Fordson tractor to plow his fields down to Lewbeach, New York, in the heart of the Catskills.
Folk On!
Ken
