I have two banjos, one with each.
The resonator banjo that I use when I play with bluegrassers has the Shubb sliding capo. Works quite well and is fast.
My open back folky banjo has the spikes. A bit slower to change, especially tucking under the spike, but also works well.
To me, it is more of a cosmetic thing. I wouldn't want to use the Shubb on the open back, just doesn't look right. And the more chrome on a resonator banjo, who cares?
