While nobody can deny that this guy is a highly skilled banjo operator, I have to agree with you, Brian. Other than trying to establish a speed record, what's the point? Most folks can't even tap their feet that fast, let alone understand or appreciate any tune that is played at warp 10 (sorry Scotty).
Although the video clip was fascinating, it was definitely NOT enjoyable as a well-performed piece of music (well...at least not for me). This past August, I heard far more enjoyable banjo music from Fantasy Campers and Bloodliners...and that's the truth!
