Never flown with a guitar. After reading all the horror stories on AGF, how a lot of airlines won't even let you carry one on a plane, or stow it near the doorway in one of their "closets," I'd be fearful unless I was taking my "beater" RK.
I'm not surprised though about screening the case. We both travel with our laptops, and you are required to take them OUT of the travel-case so they can X-ray both independently.
Now, thanks to the pirates charging $15.00-25.00 to check a suitcase, more and more people are doing the carry-on thing (I did it for the first time two weekends ago) and overhead bin space is ridiculously hard to find. People are cramming all kinds of luggage in those, and you might as well just stay in your seat once you land and the door opens, because it takes forever to get OFF the plane if you're halfway down the aisle!![]()
The other off-shoot of this are case makers like Calton, Hiscox and Anvil selling "gorilla-proof" flight cases for guitars. God help you if you DID carry one of those on, because they weight a ton!
