handsfree call

Hi,
I am working with an NEC Electra Elite 48 key system left by the last tenant. Everything works fine except the microphone during a handsfree call. The mic LED is on (Feature 1 - toggle). It all works when the Answer button is press on an incoming call.
The phones are DTU-8D-2. Any suggestions??
