Intercom Then Ring?

Since I began working at the company I am currently with, when you go to transfer a call, you were always able to press transfer, the extension, announce who was calling, then press one to make it ring through. Something has happened, and it has now been reversed where you have to press one after the extension to intercom the person. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks!
