Hello David,
Just FYI, NEC also has a great Dealer Forum over at www.necdsx.com.
As for the first part of your question, you have to make sure that you program the Secondary Port: (from the DSX-80/160 Hardware Manual: http://www.necdsx.com/docs/files/1093096_rev2.pdf)
-
Program the Door Box and 2PGDAD Module before connecting to the 2PGDAD modular jack.
- In 1203-01: Secondary Station Port Assignment, for the 16ESIU port selected enter an available
station port for the secondary port (96-127 by default).
- In 2113-02: Ring Group, assign the extensions associated with the 2PGDAD Module and all telephones that should receive door chimes to the same Ring Group.
- Refer to the Door Box feature in the DSX Software Manual for additional programming. Link: DSX Software Programming Manual Page 149.
2PGDAD Module Door Box Setup
1. Locate an available 16ESIU PCB digital station port (e.g., station port 10/extension 309).
- If you wait to plug in the 2PGDAD Module until after your programming is complete, the secondary
station port set up in the next step will auto-ID as a Door Box. The primary port always auto-
IDs as a Door Box when the 2PGDAD Module is plugged in.
2. In 1203-01: Secondary Station Port Assignment (page 613) for the station port you selected in step 1
above, enter an available station port for the secondary port.
- Station ports 96-127 are available by default.
- For example, enter port 110 (extension 409) as the secondary station port for station 10 (extension
309).
3. Following the instructions in your system’s Hardware Manual, connect the Door Boxes (P/N 922450) to
the 2PGDAD Module Door Box ports.
4. Plug the 2PGDAD Module into the 16ESIU digital station port you selected in step 1 above.
- If you plugged in the 2PGDAD in step 1 above, you’ll need to unplug and then reconnect it in order
for the secondary station port to auto-ID.
1. Refer to Basic Door Box Programming (page 148) for more.
1. The 2PGDAD relays are automatically assigned to their respective Door Box.
- 2PGDAD Door Box 1 is assigned to Relay 5.
- 2PGDAD Door Box 2 is assigned to Relay 6.
- Refer to the system’s Hardware Manual for more.
2. In 1605-03: Door Relay Unlock Timer (page 680), set the relay unlock (open) interval to meet the site
requirements.
1. If the 2PGDAD Door Box does not auto-ID, check the following programs for conflicts:
- In 1311-01: Station Extension Number (page 623) for the secondary channel, make sure there is an
extension number assigned.
- In 2101-01: Station Type (page 719), make sure the Door Box is circuit type 10.
