Posted by Steve on 4/4/2005, 11:44 am, in reply to "My Way" Hi Chris! You know, sometimes stuff happens. We thought that after the last time when they cancelled us they might have gotten their collective you-know-what together, but I guess some things (and some businesses) never change. The saddest part of all this is that this COULD have been a really nice place. The management there elected to charge a $5 cover charge, even for folks who ate dinner there. They had people leaving at the door when they found out about this. They couldn't seem to understand that before you can charge a cover you have to generate a buzz...and bring in a crowd. Who is going to pay $5 to go to a club where there are only 15 people in the audience? The first night we performed there the place rocked. There was no cover, every seat was taken, and they made significantly more money off the bar than they would have with 75% less people and a $5 cover. Indeed, after instituting the cover charge the bartenders and waitresses actually LOST money in tips they would have otherwise earned. Unfortunately, attendance dropped off after news of the cover charge and the erratic service became known. To make matters worse, several patrons, some of whom had spent upwards of $75 on dinner, were not told of a cover, but had it ADDED to their checks at the end of the night! A very good friend of mine used to do Karaoke there for two years, and they ran into the same kind of mismanagement. We were all hoping that the management there had finally seen the light and perhaps wanted to run a business instead of their own little personal play toy. Oh well... Rest assured we are actively looking for some new clubs to try and keep the freshness alive and to replace some of the places that have had to discontinue live music like Kaufmanns and Jim's Hideaway. We are especially interested in Anchor Inn in Pasadena, as it is a really nice place right on the water with a nice dance floor, good food, no cover, and plenty of space. If anyone out there knows the management or owners out there we'd sure appreciate a good word. Laurel is pretty well tapped out now. Oliver's had invited us back, but with no dance floor at all and little seating near the band it was not a very pleasent experience for most of our fans, although the management there was always good to us and they really did their best. The logistics just didn't work out. We'll keep everyone up to date on the latest, and if anyone hears of any clubs looking for our kind of variety music, please let us know!!! --
