My paternal grandmother was a Ploppert. She was a cousin of Leo. I know they grew up together in Shenandoah. My Aunt still lives in Mt. Carmel, PA and likes to talk about him. When I was in Shenandoah a couple of years ago, I went on a hunt for some of his artwork. My aunt had told me that his paintings used to hang in the bank buildings there. I had no luck in finding out what happened to them. I did speak with a women that owned an antiques shop in Shenandoah. She knew Leo well and said she had a photo of him but couldn't find it while I was there. He is also known for his sketches which you can view online by typing in his name under a search. He was also the town photographer. I would love to see what paintings you have. I don't how easily that would be for you. If you could take a photo and scan and email it, whatever you could do would be great. If you would like the name of the women that knew him well, I can look that up for you. As far as the geneology goes, I do know he was born in Germany, as with all the other Plopperts. You can look up all the census information and check out the family. If you are not able to do that I can send you hard copies. Also, if you have more info on Leo I would appreciate it. Looking forward to hearing back from you.
