Alexa, is this a temporary situation that you won't be able to take care of him? Perhaps we could assist in finding someone to foster him if it is.
Also we could point you in the direction of rescues if you wanted to go that route, but we would need to know where you are at.
There are also several wonderful people on the board who take in and find homes for birds on the board. Jan probably has the most experience in this and her birds are so spoiled.
Lastly, I hope if decide its best to part with him that you charge a reasonable adoption fee. I suggest this for a few reasons (1) keep him from going to a house with more birds than what the person can take care of (2) having someone obtain a "cheap" bird that they can "resell" and make money on. As sick as that sounds it happens all the time. (3) It shows that whoever adopts him has the money to take him to the vet when he needs it, buy him food, toys, down the line possibly a second/new cage, of course if he goes to a rescue they will not be able to give you any money for him, but they should be able to give you refrences of vets that they work with.
I used to do work with a bird club and it was difficult to get a good person to adopt the right bird from us. Even though they knew about macaws they were only truely able to care for a cockatiel (a few were deathly afraid of the big beaks) so it might be wise to see if whoever gets him he can be handled by. I got my greenwing this way, my now ex-friend bought him as an "arm trophy" and when he bit her he was abonded to the cage until she got bit again and called me to get him. He was totally untamed by the time, but is a lover now.
