Today was the funeral for Gerda Deterer of Wildlife Rescue, Inc. a lady who devoted her life to birds and God's creatures. She lost her battle with cancer last week. The service was very emotional and touching. I was really surrounded by many people who share my desire to help birds. I saw around a dozen or so friends who are in rescue or rehab.
Afterward we all went back to the facility for a reception and spent some time together. I was able to go up to the small bird room and visit three of the rescued green group Quakers from last year that are living there in a sanctuary situation. They have about a dozen budgies that I wish I could take home. The Too room was lively as always, as was the Macaw room.
Unfortunately, with all of the goings on, one of the cockatiels was out and a door opened and he flew out into the Too room and landed on a cage and his toe was bably bitten. A friend and I made calls trying to reach our regular vets but no luck. We took little Eddie to a 24 hour vet and he was wrapped and given meds. On Monday, he will go to the vet that treats the rescue birds at a very deep discount. I handed over my credit card to pay the vet- they wouldn't send a bill- and will be reimbursed next week. He should be fine- think we can save the toe.
