Yes, in many cases I can see why you would want to know. Many birds do have gender specific behaviors. Also, if you would be caging them together, you may not want a male and female together to discourage breeding, etc. But, again, not trying to be uncaring or insensitive, please know that.... I just am saying that Ming is going to be loved just the same, male or female. He or she is still the same lovely and beautiful spirit- no matter what gender.
