Good Morning!
We've had cool weather this week, mostly 60's, with chilly nights, and it looks like about the same next week.
There has been a lot of wind in various areas here. The Bay Bridge (The San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge) is closed as they try to fortify and repair it after a 5,000 lb. piece of steel fell onto it during rush hour. They are lucky things weren't worse, and it's a commuter's nightmare, since about 280,000 people a day go over it.
Even as far south as L.A. they had the winds. My mother's yard was filled with palm fronds (as was everyone in L.A.'s yard, pretty much.) from across the street, which is a rarity. It has to really gust for that to happen.
And speaking of my mom, her kitchen flooded 2 nights ago; as in inches of water. She slid when she walked in, not knowing it was there, thankfully regaining her balance with the help of a counter, then used all of her towels to try to get some up. A friend finally came over and got the water shut off to the kitchen.
Yesterday the Whirlpool repairman went over, and said it was originating in the ice box's water filter. The new one will get there next week sometime. Now they have to make sure the bottom of the cabinets, and the sub-flooring are okay, especially with the kitchen being upstairs.
It turns out that even if we want the H1N1 vaccine, it's not going to be available. There are only 900 being allotted to our county, which is a very small number. They are first going to people who work with children under 6 months old, then children 6 months to 24 years, and pregnant women. There won't be enough even for those groups, and I wonder how many other areas will be shorted? In the area we used to live in, in L.A., another pregnant woman just died of H1N1, and another child was lost, so there are definitely people at high risk not getting vaccinated, and I wonder if they'll even have the option.
We are trying to do all of the little winterizing things which need it now. In this area, should the storm doors open, and it turn out to be a normal year, it can begin to rain in earnest, making projects difficult, if not impossible, to complete.
The chickens are molting, so I'm keeping a special eye on that one buff rock who isn't very strong seeming.
How was your week?
