tells her doctor, "I don't want any tests. Just let me go home so I can die with my husband."
My brother called me this afternoon. Mom's doctor called him, against our mom's wishes. She is far worse than she is leading any of us to believe. She has a severe infection in her lungs. The doctor wants to do a bronchoscopy to see exactly what is going on. My mother is refusing all tests and doesn't want treatment. The doctor is refusing to give up on her. She believes there is available treatment, but she needs to know exactly what she is dealing with.
My brother says we're going to have to make some hard decisions regarding our parents. I'm not 100% sure at this time, but I think my sister is going to make the trip north with me this weekend. I've always known this day (having to make decisions about & for our parents) would come. I just never thought it would be so soon.
I called my other brother to see if we could stay there this weekend. He was at work, but I talked with my sister-in-law. She said she thinks there is more going on with my dad too. She doesn't know what. She thinks he may be hiding something - a bad diagnosis possibly - from all of us, even my mom.
Does anyone have any experience with this type of thing? Things like getting power of attorny over your parents for financial, as well as medical purposes? Neither parent has made any decisions regarding DNRs, final wishes, where they'd like to go if they need more care than can be given in the home, etc. They do have burial plots. I know that much. If you have any advice, facts, etc., please, I'd like to hear them.
Please keep my family in prayer. I didn't want to make this trip in the first place. It's too close to when I am moving and so much still needs to be done here. I think my brother & I have agreed to push the move back 1 more week. This means I'll be moving the weekend of November 21 - 22. Also, pray one of the rental homes I found online will work. I need a home that is accessible (or can be easily made accessible), in my price range, AND the biggie, will allow ALL 7 animals.
Thanks!
