When one passed away, about 3 weeks before Dd, I was talking to my aunt and asked her if Philip Yellowbelly had attended the funeral. She seemed blank, then laughed and laughed.
She asked, "Is that what Kevin told you his name was?" I said yes, since I was really little, then she laughed some more.
Apparently, his name was never Yellow 'Belly', it was Yellowbird. He'd been teasing me!!! lol!
Actually, he was a big part of my life, as he and his sister were older than me. He was patient (would sit and make beads from chicken bones.), played games with the kids (why do you think that the cowboys didn't always win! lol!), shared treats - even if was his lunch - with me, was talented - he made an authentic costume for pow wows and was a dancer, as well as being a high belt (sash?) in Aikido, etc. Oh yeah, and he surfed, lol! And, 'let' me wax his board. :-) It was his little league game that I sat on the red ant nest.
Well, enough of that.
Wow, what great information.
Both of my parents had polio, too. It was so common then. But, neither had a noticeably short leg.
Good for you for standing up to them.
How wonderful that you have her putter!
