Our weather certainly changed! The nights have been comfortable, and the daytime temperatures crept up daily until mid-week, when we crested 100 degrees. Friday was 99. It's supposed to start dropping a lot now, until it's only in the 50's-60's by Sunday/Monday, then stay there through the week. They are calling for showers, or slight chance of showers, between Monday night, and the end of the week.
They are going to change the burn ban this year from June, to May 1st. So, any of us waiting for rain to burn won't be able to burn the brush at all until deep into fall. There was a fire close to me a couple of days ago. It's where the fire originated that required our evacuation. Luckily, it is out now, as far as I can tell.
We had a couple of wasps in the house this week, and another queen yellow jacket. The more of those that we can take out of the breeding pool, the fewer nests they will make.
We are still adding water to the polliwog pond, but the babies now have little back legs, so will hopefully not need the water soon.
The big millipede's have been found all over the place this week, and there was a Johnson spider on the dog bowl. They look like this: Spider
Every 'flower' on my hummingbird feeder was in use today - that's 5. They are loving the hot weather, which gives them more eating hours per day, without high winds, driving rain, and snow. We do get a daily breeze here, which makes the feeder sway. That doesn't bother them at all, though.
There have been some birds here again this week which have songs that I don't recognize. They may be passing through.
Last month, the full moon brought out every critter imagineable. This month, the full moon is on the 5th - only 6 days away.
And, I saw on a national news channel that the type of weather that everyone had this winter...some milder, or wetter, etc. will bring out more ticks - that's definitely true here right now - and an increase in Lymes and other tick borne diseases. So, keep your eyes open, even if you live in a town. Some ticks can be small - smaller than a sesame seed, or about that size.
I've been in sorting mode this week, and am hatching a plan to do more coming up. I've also done a couple of days of prepping/cooking for the freezer.
Things are very different with Hira here, but she's very good overall. I have rarely had an adult dog come in and just get into lock step with the family...well, Pepsi the 8 yo JRT. Maybe that's it - bringing in a mature dog. All is not roses, but pretty darned good, considering her previous life, not knowing us, and how short of a time it's been.
Tonight, Krypto was tired after playing dog games, and having dinner, and before I knew it, he was passed out in the living room. Whereas Dh was doing something in the kitchen, and Hira was just lying on the floor and watching him. Dad T.V., I call it.
Well, there's a lot to do this weekend. If Ds is well enough, he may come over, bring my mail, and help Dh to get the panels up here to save my poor garden. I really need my zone alarms back up, too, so that I know if someone's down at the house, coming down the road, at the storage containers, etc. One up here would be nice, too. I do have an extra...so maybe, if there's time.
I think it's mosquito repellent time. I keep most of my essential oils in special partitioned boxes, unless they are too large. So, it shouldn't be difficult to get them all in front of me to do my alchemy thing!
How was your week?
